Phonographic Memories

By Karl C. McLean

I am fond of music and I have so many childhood reminiscence concerning it. My parents love the songs of the oldies, they could swing to the beat in our living room even without shoes on. I had watched both of them swing to the old music of Glenn Miller, Guy Lombardo and Sinatra. My father and mother could jiggerbug like no one I have ever witnessed. Every Saturday night, my parents held gatherings in the house and the music would continue after I went to bed. I paid attention to the music and the laughter echoing in the walls of the house as I lie on bed. Falling asleep to nirvana in that approach was very enjoyable. It made me happy especially when my father and mother allow me to linger because I got to witness them move their bodies to the beat, and much more when my papa clutched me in his arms to move to the music with him also. Those moments are precious which my heart will never forget. My dad and mom decided that I ought to have my own phonograph when I was older and they bought me with one.I listened to Elvis Presley, Doris Day, the Beatles and - oh my preferred - Motown. Mr. Edison invented the phonograph and because of him, I get to play excellent music of superb musicians and delight in it a lot. Well, thanks to you!

Mankind launched to recorded sound as a result of Mr. Thomas Alva Edison's invention. He did it sometime in October of 1877 by making a recording of the phrase from the nursery rhyme, "Mary had a little lamb". It was a big blow however that Mr. Thomas Edison's creation was unable to maintain the society's attention eventually. As soon as having learned that sound could be recorded, making a prototype, playing the recording and exhibiting the creation to the workers of the Scientific American in New York City, after putting up the Edison Speaking Phonograph Company during 1878, making and advertising the phonograph and becoming an immediate success - after the whole thing, public attention lessened .The novelty of the phonograph wore off and Edison transferred his thought to the inventing of the incandescent light bulb.

Then again, it was not up till Alexander Graham Bell displayed interest in upgrading the instrument and together with his cousin Chichester A. Bell and Charles Sumner Tainter, a scientist and instrument builder filed for a patent in 1886 on May 4 that made Edison to decide to start the undertaking of improving his instrument.Bell and Tainter approached Edison for a probable alliance, but Edison would not listen to them (no pun intended), snubbed and developed an advanced, more superior form of the device itself. For his improved creation to sell in the market, Edison formed the Edison Phonograph Company by October 8, 1887. Well, you can forget about the rest.

The record playing machine continued to change, and rather of cylinders used for recording, the creation of the record, LP's revealed an entirely distinctive world. The sound it generated had better quality, longer playing with minimal interludes.

Phonograph turntables these days are still offered in the market. Do you still retain those records from your parents or yours perhaps? I still keep my father and mother's Several of the recent phonographs have radios, cassette players and recorders incorporated, hence you acquire the best of all worlds. If you need to replace the needle for the reason that its worn out, you can still get one these days and even a reserve just in case.

I am unable to comprehend, there is really something about using a phonograph that gives such glee and amusement to the memories it conjures up every time the phonograph needle first brushes that old record.
